We build on serotonin filled moments not just fueled by physical movement,
but by the social and emotional
that transforms the actions to magical.
Magical moments like a potion wash over them
emotionally and physically
if we let it be
what it can be.
It’s what happens when our teaching transcends the boundaries of lessons and block plans.
Where classmates become allies and friends.
The activities we provide
become coupled inside
with the attraction to action.
A desire to move and to move together.
When we achieve flow and float.
Things no longer speed up
they slow
and in split seconds we and they grow
as we snap back
as they grab their backpacks
the feelings are already sown.
So as teachers we go toe to toe
as we balance the tight rope
between relatable and approachable with our objectives and our goals.
Never losing sight of the ultimate hope
that our students find their meaning
Over what we told them and what we wrote
To the depths of their needs
and gives voice to their throat
See we fear the profound impact of our work
Scared that the public will write us off as woke
so we stay glued to the ground
where living small leaves us and our students safe and sound
but we miss out on the opportunity to create, connect and to be honest clown.
To get to what’s next
we have to live and teach in the complex contexts and find the nooks and crannies that lead home to magical moments
The moments that pull at our hearts‘ strings and leave us all in awe.
The AWEsome.
Leaving all wanting some more awe.
All-in-all we need to aspire to inspire
instead of going through the motions leaving us tired until we retire,
instead try
Instead be reminded we have the power
to shape and empower
the next generation as a group that seeks adventure in confidence, care, and competence from
the seeds that we plant
Yet do not come to fruition while we are with them.
It is our mission
as 1…50 Million Strong.
This is my two cents
about a mindset I recommend.
Whether you decide to jump on board and/or convince a friend,
I employ you to not pretend
that our collective cannot contend with the problems that are at hand.
Switch from double negative to positive.
And in terms of dreams…
Activate big instead of small.
